Good start in ENG for Essex Open under 12’s

The Essex Open U12 Maroons made their competitive debut at ENG this weekend, taking on a doubleheader in their first round of fixtures. Their opening match was against Shan Netball Club, followed by a clash with Magic Netball Club.
In the first game, the Maroons were competitive from the outset and showed great determination. However, Shan’s experience at this level was clear. Their organised zonal press and tight marking proved difficult for our girls to break down, and at times we struggled to move the ball out of defence. When the Maroons did manage to play through the press, though, they produced some sharp attacking play and showed flashes of real quality. The final score was 25–12 to Shan, but the team came away with plenty to learn from the contest.

The second fixture against Magic Netball Club saw the girls settle into the competition and begin to adapt. They showed much more composure on the ball and started to find ways of working through pressure. Confidence grew as the game went on, with some excellent movement in attack and tighter defensive work across the court. In a nail-biting finish, the Maroons held their nerve to edge out Magic 24–23, securing their first ENG win.
