Under 10 Blues close encounter with Manor

Saturday the 18th October, U10 faced Manor Met. What a tense and exciting match it was!
The U10s started strong with a 3-1 lead in the first quarter; the 2nd quarter started with another net scored, but Manor fought well to equalise 4-4. As they headed into the third quarter Essex managed another 2 nets, leading 6-4. The third quarter saw another net scored but Manor attacked back and the third quarter ended on 8-9 to Manor. Heading into the fourth quarter, you could sense the tension building, great attacking and defending from the U10s as nets were scored by each team, but finally ending on a 10-11 win to Manor. what a great match; well done girls!

Big win for Under 10 Maroons

Essex Open Maroon’s 37 – Woodford Warriors 1

What a brilliant game from our U10 Maroon team! Everyone worked so hard and played with great energy from start to finish.

Woodford Warriors were really unlucky with an injury in the first quarter but they kept going which was great to see.

Our Maroon team moved the ball really well into the shooting circle and our shooters were on fire, scoring lots of fantastic goals! There was some lovely teamwork and passing throughout the game.

Essex Open Seniors crush Vibrant

Essex bounce back with dominant display at Dartford

After a tough defeat in their previous match, Essex Open were back to their brilliant best with a convincing 64–37 victory over Vibrant at Dartford.

The win was built on an outstanding first-quarter performance that set the tone for the rest of the game. Essex came out strong, scoring 20 goals to Vibrant’s 8. The opening minutes were evenly contested, with both sides going goal for goal, but once Essex found their rhythm there was no looking back. The centre-court trio of Johanne Linehan, Jasmin Odeogberin, and Rebecca Wilks controlled the midcourt superbly, creating chance after chance for the shooters.

In the circle , Leah Hayzelden and Maddie Oshodi were in top form, converting almost every opportunity and leaving the Vibrant defence struggling to keep up.

The second quarter was just as impressive, with Essex continuing to dominate all areas of the court. In defence, Renee Hurley was once again outstanding, supported brilliantly by the ever-reliable Emma Shaw. Hazelden and Oshodi continued to pile on the pressure, adding another 21 goals to extend the lead to 41–17 by half-time.

Essex made several changes in the third quarter, bringing on Rebecca Mead, Rochelle Reynolds-Blanche, and Emma Thorogood. The new combinations took a little time to settle, but Essex continued to control the game and maintained their strong advantage, leading 51–29 heading into the final quarter.

In the closing period, Essex pushed on and stretched their lead even further. There was also an opportunity for Atronna Sebyala to come on as shooter, and she impressed immediately with her sharp movement and confident finishing.

This was an excellent team performance from start to finish — full of energy, teamwork, and precision. Essex will be looking to build on this result and carry their momentum into the next game.

Another convincing win for Under 11 Blues

The opposition started strong with a quick first goal but the Blues stepped it up and pulled a quick goal back to level the score. They attacked and defended well, creating a lot of chances in the rest of the first quarter, ending it 4-1 up.

Q2 the team really started to play well together, which was great as some girls were playing their first match for the Blues. There was great movement up the court and the defence was strong keeping the opposition back. It was a much tighter quarter ending at 6-2.

At the beginning of the third quarter the opposition played really tightly and started to pull it back getting to 7-5 down. But Essex stepped it up and tightened up the defence and took their chances in attack to end the quarter 9-5.

Some great defending in the final quarter and great work by the whole team giving away far fewer penalties than the opposition meant Essex ended the match 10-5 maintaining their unbeaten run this season.

Essex Met Netball League – Match Report

With both regular shooters unavailable, Essex Open Under-12 Blues were forced into a reshuffle for this week’s Essex Met League fixture against the Under-11 Maroons. A make-shift attacking line-up saw players stepping out of their usual positions, with Elisha from the Under-12 Maroons kindly supporting as guest shooter.

Despite the changes, the Under-12 Blues started off with determination, working hard to adapt to new combinations in the attacking third. Their defensive unit held firm under pressure, showing great communication and resilience throughout.

The Under-11 Maroons, meanwhile, struggled at times to keep up with the physicality and speed of the game but did well to stay competitive and not let their heads drop. The Under-12 Blues continued to control the game, linking well through court and converting their chances efficiently to finish as 22–2 winners.

Both sides demonstrated excellent spirit and commitment, gaining valuable match experience and showing great promise for the season ahead.

Spirited display by Under 11 Maroons

Final Score: Maroons 2 – 22 Blues

After a slow start, the Maroons found their rhythm, working the ball through the court, applying defensive pressure, and never giving up , even scoring a couple of well deserved consolation goals.

The Blues, meanwhile, showed great movement and precision shooting in attack, securing a well-deserved 22–2 win. But the Maroons kept fighting right to the final whistle, showing great determination and team spirit.

The elusive first win can’t be far away after a gutsy performance like that, the Maroons will be sharpening their elbows for the return match!

Under 13 Maroons gain a convincing win!

Our match on Saturday was quite intense in the first two quarters due to the score being pretty tight. We were applying our defence on centre passes very well however we made it hard for ourselves getting the ball through the centre third. It was a good match overall and a good outcome. Azaria was a well deserved player of the match and had very accurate shooting. Arianna also fed the ball into the circle very well. Tanure and Omotayo linked up effectively to get the ball down the court. We won 30-18.

Under 11 Blues defeat Brentwood

After a rigorous warm up session, it was clear at Q1 that Essex Open U11 Blues would need to step up to the challenge presented by fierce opponents, Brentwood. With their waspish colours Brentwood rapidly set the pace by delivering the first goal.

Undeterred, Essex O with steely focus used their team’s strengths in defence and attack to dominate all areas of the court for the rest of the match.

Despite Storm Amy and 3 of our players hitting the deck as a result, they left the court proudly having won the match 8-2.

Essex Under 14s defeat Beacon

The first quarter was a tightly contested one and not Essex Open’s best start, as they led by only two goals. During this period, the team was still adjusting to Brentwood Leopard’s style of play and finding their rhythm on court

In the second quarter, there were several impressive interceptions from both attack and defence. However, Essex Open struggled to capitalise on these opportunities, finding it difficult to break through Beacons’ tight defensive unit.

In the penultimate quarter, Essex began to pull away, building a 16-point lead. This improvement came from stronger marking, fewer loose balls, and much better movement around the D, allowing smoother play and more consistent scoring.

The final quarter was steady and composed. Essex maintained their lead by staying tight on defence, contesting every loose ball, and moving confidently towards the ball to close out the game. But the game ended 33-17 to Essex open.

Essex A narrowly defeat Leyton A

This was an incredibly close contest that remained undecided until the final minutes. The match began with both sides trading goals, and midway through the first quarter Essex held a narrow 6–5 lead.

Essex then enjoyed a strong spell of possession, with Nicole Alves, Rebecca Wilks, and Johanne Linehan taking control of the game and dictating the tempo. Their dominance allowed Essex to pull ahead, establishing a five-goal cushion at 13–7.

However, Leyton responded well, showing determination to close the gap. By the end of a tightly contested opening quarter, the score stood at 13–10 in Essex’s favour.

The second quarter proved disappointing for Essex. Leyton began strongly, scoring six goals with only a solitary reply from their opponents to move into a 16–14 lead. Their momentum continued as they stretched the advantage to 23–19, leaving Essex struggling to find their rhythm.

Despite the poor spell, Essex showed impressive resilience to claw their way back into the game, netting five unanswered goals towards the end of the quarter. At half-time, the scores were level at 25–25.

Essex came out revitalised in the third quarter, producing some excellent netball. Maddie O’Shodi and Leah Hayzelden combined effectively in attack, scoring five goals without reply to restore a five-goal cushion. Although Leyton continued to battle, Essex maintained their advantage thanks to solid defensive work from Emma Shaw and Renee Hurley, who limited Leyton to just eight goals in the quarter. Heading into the final phase, Essex held a five-goal lead.

In the final quarter, Essex began brightly, extending their lead to 43–34. However, Leyton once again refused to yield, cutting the deficit to six with half the quarter remaining. A few careless errors from Essex allowed Leyton further opportunities, and the tension rose as the visitors closed to within three goals at 48–45.

Fortunately, Essex held their nerve in the closing moments, converting from their centre pass and capitalising on a Leyton turnover. Although Leyton scored twice late on, Essex remained composed to secure a 50–47 victory in a thrilling encounter.
