Essex Open A begin season in style

Essex Open A 66 New Campbell Blue 33

This was a comfortable victory for Essex in their first game of the new season. The foundation of the victory was an excellent start to the first quarter. Essex created numerous chances, which were well taken by Leah Hayzeldon and Maddie Oshodi. As a result, Essex found themselves 10-1 in front with not more than 5 minutes played. Cambell were always going to find it hard to get back into the game with such a deficit. To their credit, Campbell battled well, and at the end of the first quarter, the score was 16-7. The second quarter was much closer and indeed at the end of it both sides had scored 14 goals each. With Essex leading 30-21 at halftime Campbell needed to start the second half well. However, Essex came out brightly, scoring 5 goals with only one in response. This halted any hope of a Cambell recovery in the third quarter.  Essex had Jasmin Odegberin  and Renée Hurley in defence. Cambell found this a formidable combination and could only manage to score 6 goals in the quarter.  At the other end Essex continued to score regularly with chances created by a powerful centre court combination of Johanne Linehan, Nocole Alves and Rebecca Wilks. With a quarter to go,  Essex led 46-27.

Essex totally dominated the last quarter as Cambell ran out of steam and Essex scored 15 goals with Cambell managing 2 in response before a late rally gave the scoreline a more balanced view. However, at the end Essex ran out 66-33 winners. A massive boost for Essex was the return of Emma Shaw who returned to the Side following a long absence with injury.

Next week, Essex start their regional league campaign with a home fixture against Telstars at Harrow Lodge 10. 30 a.m. centre pass
