Under 14s defeat Marshalls Orange

The under 14 blues played a match against Marshall Orange on Saturday. Going into the first quarter we scored 14 and only conceded 2 , the defence turning over many balls. Then in the second quarter we scored a further 10 goals and conceded another 2 goals to make the score 24-4. However our scoring dropped quite a bit as we only scored 4 in the third quarter and so did Marshalls. In the final quarter the scoring increased to 11 whilst Marshalls scored 2, making the final score 39-10.

U13B AP Saints 8

AP Saints vs Essex

It was a very close and competitive game! Despite being a player down, AP Saints showed great teamwork and determination throughout. We had some strong play bringing the ball out from the back line, and there were moments of excellent passing and movement across the court. Both teams defended well, which made it a real challenge to keep the flow going. When we did get the ball into our shooting circle, we created some great opportunities — with a bit more consistency in our shooting, we’ll be even stronger next time. Overall, a fantastic effort and lots of positives to build on!

Essex Open Seniors romp to victory

Having defeated Vibrant in their previous regional game, Essex were able to follow this up with an excellent victory over The Downs. The result was achieved once again as a result of an excellent first quarter performance. From the outset, Essex outplayed The Downs. In the centre-court, Nicole Alves, Johanne Linehan, and Rebecca Wilks totally dominated their opponents. They were able to supply a constant stream of good passes into the circle which Sophia Sefton and Maddie O’Shodie took full advantage of. From the first whistle, their shooting was excellent and enabled Essex to build a substantial lead by the end of the first quarter. Defensively, Emma Shaw and Rene Hurley were both outstanding and made it very difficult for The Downs to score goals. At the end of the first quarter, Essex led 18-6. The second quarter was much more competitive and Downs came back into the game. However, Essex always had too much for them and although the scores were much closer, Essex were able to maintain their healthy lead. At half-time, Essex led 31-19. Essex made a couple of changes in the second half but they continued to pile on the goals. Sebyala Attrona was excellent in supporting Maddy O’Shodie in the circle. At centre court, Olivia Edwards came on and was soon heavily involved in the game, ensuring that Essex kept possession well. At the back, Essex defended so well that the goals virtually dried up for The Downs. With a quarter to go, the victory was sealed as Essex led 46-19. Essex did not let up in the last quarter and indeed started really well and scored 13 goals with a mere 2 in response from The Downs. Sophia Sefton came back on to court and continued to shoot well and Emma Thorogood, who also came on in the second half, defended very well. This was an excellent display by Essex and they fully deserved the points.

Defeat for U12 Maroons

Essex Open U12 Maroons vs Manor Met White

On Saturday 25th October at 9:30am, Essex Open Maroons played against Manor Met White in a really exciting and competitive match. It was a close game, but in the end Manor Met won 19–15. Even though we didn’t get the win, we were proud of how we played and how we kept trying until the end.

The first quarter didn’t go our way, and that’s what really cost us overall. After that, we were evenly matched right up until the final quarter. It was very tense when the score was even, and I really thought we might win. Unfortunately, Manor Met managed to pull ahead with a four-goal lead near the end.

There were some great moments when the game flowed well down the court to our shooters, and we battled hard in defence to win the ball back. However, we need to work on our passing and ball placement to make sure the ball moves more smoothly. We also need to practise hitting the ball back onto court when it’s rolling off, instead of running to it and trying to pick it up.

Manor Met were a good team. Their shooting was accurate and they moved the ball quickly down the court. Even though they were two years older than us, we put in a strong effort and challenged ourselves. Losing to a team like that isn’t shameful, and there were lots of positives to take from the game.

It was a tough match, but we showed good teamwork and determination. We will take what we learned and make the next match a win!

Good win for Under 12 Maroons

U12 Maroons 23 – 10 Essex Wanderers Opal

The U12 Maroons started their third game of the season where they left off from the second game.

The Maroons started the game with two quick goals.
They were strong in defence turning balls over and making good use of it in attack. The quarter ended 7 – 2.

The second quarter saw more of the same. To find a way around the oppositions height advantage, the Maroons had to avoid loopy passes by cutting infront and driving towards. At the halfway mark the score was 14 – 5.

The third and fourth quarters followed the same pattern however the mid court and attack started to make unnecessary mistakes by making wrong pass choices as tiredness started to kick in.

The Maroons held strong and comfortably won the game 23 – 10.

Players of the match were Stella and Jess.

A team defeat B team

Essex Open A completed a comfortable victory over fellow clubmates Essex Open B. Although the match was very competitive, as expected the A team held the upper hand and were able to keep control in all four quarters. The A team started well and midway through the first quarter took a 9-5 lead. By the end of the quarter they were 19-10 in front and the B team were facing an uphill struggle. At halftime, the A team led 34-17 and the B team needed to concentrate in the second half to ensure they kept within a half. The third quarter was much more tightly fought with the B team starting it exceptionally well, scoring seven goals with only two in reply from the A team. However, the A team recovered their composure and won the quarter narrowly 14-11. The last quarter was again tightly fought with the score line of 16-13, giving the A team overall a 64-41 victory.

What a brilliant game from our U10 Maroon team! Everyone worked so hard and played with great energy from start to finish.

Woodford Warriors were really unlucky with an injury in the first quarter but they kept going which was great to see.

Our Maroon team moved the ball really well into the shooting circle and our shooters were on fire, scoring lots of fantastic goals! There was some lovely teamwork and passing throughout the game.

Essex Open Seniors crush Vibrant

Vibrant 37 Essex Open 64

Essex bounce back with dominant display at Dartford

After a tough defeat in their previous match, Essex Open were back to their brilliant best with a convincing 64–37 victory over Vibrant at Dartford.

The win was built on an outstanding first-quarter performance that set the tone for the rest of the game. Essex came out strong, scoring 20 goals to Vibrant’s 8. The opening minutes were evenly contested, with both sides going goal for goal, but once Essex found their rhythm there was no looking back. The centre-court trio of Johanne Linehan, Jasmin Odeogberin, and Rebecca Wilks controlled the midcourt superbly, creating chance after chance for the shooters.

In the circle , Leah Hayzelden and Maddie Oshodi were in top form, converting almost every opportunity and leaving the Vibrant defence struggling to keep up.

The second quarter was just as impressive, with Essex continuing to dominate all areas of the court. In defence, Renee Hurley was once again outstanding, supported brilliantly by the ever-reliable Emma Shaw. Hazelden and Oshodi continued to pile on the pressure, adding another 21 goals to extend the lead to 41–17 by half-time.

Essex made several changes in the third quarter, bringing on Rebecca Mead, Rochelle Reynolds-Blanche, and Emma Thorogood. The new combinations took a little time to settle, but Essex continued to control the game and maintained their strong advantage, leading 51–29 heading into the final quarter.

In the closing period, Essex pushed on and stretched their lead even further. There was also an opportunity for Atronna Sebyala to come on as shooter, and she impressed immediately with her sharp movement and confident finishing.

This was an excellent team performance from start to finish — full of energy, teamwork, and precision. Essex will be looking to build on this result and carry their momentum into the next game.

Squad: Hurley, Shaw, Thorogood, Linehan, Odeogberin, Wilks, Hayzelden, Oshodi, Mead, Sebyala, Reynolds-Blanche.
