Essex Under 11’s defeated Marshalls at Redbridge Sports Centre on Saturday.
Essex Open U11 Maroon team battled hard through very difficult, windy conditions today to emerge victorious in their match against Marshalls U11’s. Having not encountered conditions like this before the girls had to work out how to overcome the difficulties of throwing a ball against the wind and also with the wind. They soon realised that short hard passes with quick sharp dodges were the best way to overcome the conditions. Both teams’ defences worked tirelessly to intercept ball after ball and this was reflected in the score at the end of the 1st quarter which was 1-0 to Essex. The 2nd quarter was not much higher scoring and finished 3-1 to Essex. Marshalls fought back and at one point had bought the score level at 5-5. However, the Essex Open girls where not in the mood to loose so, with Charlotte and Viola working hard to intercept and overturn the ball, and the shooters Isabella and Lottie working tirelessly to dodge and get free from Marshalls’ defence they managed to creep ahead and hold on to a 3 goal lead and finish 8-3 winners.
